The author had recently left a "toxic relationship" with a lot of stress. He notes that his diet has veered toward veganism since the breakup, although he does include an egg or a bit of cheese now and then.
"I was thinking about why I ate so much cheese in the past, and I think it was because of stress. I ate more cheese and butter later in my relationship when things started turing sour. Comfort food = fatty animal products. Now that I don’t have as much stress (I’m currently working 4 part-time jobs and going to school full time, so that tells you a bit about the stress levels from the relationship) I’m having no problem keeping away from the cheese and butter. I don’t even think about it when I’m cooking something up. When I buy groceries, I just buy an assortment of long lasting fruits, veggies, and nuts. Things I can cook easily and take with me to work or school without having to cook."
I do not envy him his broken heart, but I really want to reach that level of eating sanely despite ongoing stresses in my life.

Having a tough time getting back on track
I am discouraged -- this feels like *last* summer when I kept saying "this is it!" only to resume eating compulsively.
But I am hoping that this is like quitting smoking .... I tried and tried, and failed and failed, and tried and tried... and finally it took. That was 25 years ago.
A couple of other motivators... I saw pictures of me, taken a couple of weeks ago. I had lost 25 pounds - but still looked FAT and terrible in those pictures. I would like to have pictures of me in our album, but not looking like this!
And I am having organic produce delivered to the house every week. I can barely keep up with the flow of fresh fruits and veggies - and if some of my meals are cheese (on cheese, with a side of cheese and sugar for dessert), then I am going to end up wasting fruit and veggies - which would be *really* shameful.
So today I am back on the wagon. Kedgeree for breakfast, with an apple. Will make soup for lunch - tomatoes plus whatever is in the fridge for veggies. Have that with scallops or tuna or shrimp most days for lunch - filling and proteinacious.
And I am not so exhausted today - it would be good to get in 30 minutes of some kind of exercise.

Third time's the charm
I am back on the wagon. After I finished the eight weeks of serious deprivation, I (not unexpectedly, I guess.. ) simply dove back into compulsive eating. I only regained a couple of pounds, which is a mercy - 228.5 now. Tried twice to get back on my program -- failed twice. Third time's the charm.
Today - back on track. Kedgeree for breakfast, and made a pot to get me through the week. (Kedgeree is lentils and rice and vegetables, curried. I love having kedgeree in my refrigerator, ready to be warmed up for my breakfast every morning.)
Will be following my usual version of No S - no snacks, no seconds, no sweets. OK to have two lunches. A bag of chips *could* count as a lunch, but although that would be in the letter of the law, it certainly would not be in the spirit.
Will be tracking food in Dietpower. Need to wait for the kedgeree to cool to roughly measure the servings in my big pot of breakfasts, and enter that into Dietpower.
I saw some pictures of me last week, and was reminded why I am SO averse to having my picture taken. I was fat in all of those pictures, and some went back ten years. I have been overweight for so many years now. And actually, I hate that there are so few pictures of me in our albums... but I usually come down on the side of hating the fat pictures MORE than I hate the absence of pictures.
So... the view from the wagon is pretty fine this morning.

New Blog - Perfect Diet Trifecta
I had created a blog "perfect diet trifecta" last year... but it was under a different ID, and I'm finding that way too frustrating. So I'm back here.
Here's the bit about the Trifecta:
Eating plan: No S, which is no snacks, no sweets, no seconds, except (sometimes) on days which begin with S. http://www.nosdiet.com. Very simple.
Tool: Dietpower. http://www.dietpower.com. The No S plan basically says "follow the simple rules and do not keep track of anything." For me... it's better to keep track. Dietpower is simple to use, and tracks foods, nutrition, exercise. For me, it's a valuable adjunct to the No S eating plan.
Trainer: I work with a great trainer, John Brescia. John comes to my house two times a week, and takes me through a really solid workout. I try to fit in at least some workouts or aerobic work between training sessions. For the first three months of the year, he came three times every week. (I would ask him to come four times a week if I could afford that!)
I have been away from this whole plan for the past couple of months while I followed a very restrictive eating plan for candida. The problem now is that it was SO restrictive that I felt pretty deprived.... and coming off of that eating plan, I immediately gained two pounds. I have lost 24 pounds so far this year (well, 23 now... :-( ) I have 36 pounds to go. When I hit the half-way mark, 30 pounds, I move from BMI "obese" to BMI "overweight."
So I need to stay on track here. On the non-candida diet, it's fine to go back to some fruits and starchy vegetables. It is NOT ok to use sugar.
Will try to blog at least a bit every day.
